Easter Sampler Stitchery Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

Easter is not that far off so I thought you'd like to see a wonderful Easter sampler pattern that Kaaren Johnston has on her The Painted Quilt blog. Looks like a great project for the rest of the winter months.

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern:  Last Sunday morning, while doing a bit of housework trying to fill in time until the start of the gold medal hockey game between Canada and the United States, an idea for a new design popped into my head. After some quick sketching and even speedier stitching, a new design was born, just in time for this month’s First Friday Freebie.

I had actually completed another design that was designated for this month and it was all ready to go but when I realized that Easter is early this year and if I waited until next month to come up with something for Easter, it would be too late for this year. So the design that was originally slated for this month has been set aside until next month.

I hope you enjoy my Easter Sampler.

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern:   It’s the First Friday of the month again so it’s time for my fourth FFF (First Friday Freebie). Do you realize it’s only 21 days until Christmas? Yikes! Where have the days gone?

Although Christmas is a short three weeks away, this month’s design can be stitched up relatively quickly and be ready in plenty of time to hang by the chimney awaiting St. Nick’s arrival.

This month’s design is adapted from an painting I did about 6 years ago that appeared in a Japanese decorative painting magazine. It’s called Christmas Eve.

Winter Cardinal Quilt Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

My sister just adores cardinals and I try to make something for her every once in awhile. So, I was happy to see that Kaaren Johnston had a wonderful pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make a mini winter quilt with a cardinal. My sister would love it.

First Friday Freebie #17 - Winter

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern:  Can you believe that it’s the First Friday of February already? I certainly hope that this month flies by as quickly as January did because that would mean we’re that much closer to Spring. Please…no more snow!

Since we are in the throes of winter and cardinals visit our bird feeders on a daily basis, I drew my inspiration for this month’s FFF (First Friday Freebie) from their beauty. Their coloring is simply amazing and lends itself perfectly to redwork. This month’s project is called, “Winter”.

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern:  It’s June the 1st already and coincidently, the First Friday of the month as well! Where does the time go?

By now you all know that two of my favorite things to make and collect are needle cases and pincushions…and you can never have too many of either one! Right?

Homespun Holidays Quilt Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

One of the things I love about the holiday season is all the bright red and green colors associated with the Christmas season.  Red, of course, being my favorite color.   So, I was happy to see that Kaaren Johnston had yet another wonderful pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make a Homespun Holidays red quilt.  That would look right at home in my house.  How about yours?

First Friday Freebie #22 - Homespun Holidays

Copyright © 2011 - All Rights Reserved - Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern:  Can you believe it’s November already? Where does the time go?

I finished this month’s First Friday Freebie this past Sunday, a couple of minutes before the lights went out. We were hit with a wicked nor’easter, the same storm that brought 12” and more of snow to the New England states. Thank goodness the moisture that we experienced was in the form of large amounts of driving rain and 65+ mph winds rather than snow. We lost power for 20 hours and that amount of time without heat or lights seemed like an eternity.

With the Holiday season just around the corner, I decided upon a seasonal design for this month’s FFF which I called Homespun Holidays.

First Friday Freebie #2 - Halloween Hauntings

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern:  Today is the First Friday of October, so that means my second Freebie design…’Halloween Hauntings’… is available for your enjoyment, right here and right now!

Please indulge me a bit while I tell you how this project evolved.

Since Halloween occurs on the 31st of October and because I love to decorate for the seasons, I thought that a Halloween themed design would be appropriate for my second FFF (First Friday Freebie).

Initially, my original design started off as a Halloween, sampler-style stitchery and it was my intention to stop at that.

Do Small Things With Great Love Stitchery Free Pattern By Amy of nanaCompany

Looking for a sweet embroidery design to add to a baby quilt or mini wall quilt?  If you are then you'll want to check out the tutorial that Amy has on her nanaCompany blog.  What a great saying.

Here's what Amy had to say about her pattern: "We cannot do great things, but we can do small things with great love." ~ Mother Teresa

I love this quote. It's what I try to do in my own way. Apparently Mother Teresa, whose real name was Agnes, chose the name Teresa when she took her religious vows in honor of Saint Therese de Lisieux ~ "the little flower" who believed that life should be spent scattering "flowers"... that is, small acts of love.

So, when I wanted to embroider these words, it made a lot of sense to frame them with lazy daisies and little buds. And I've turned my pencil drawing into a pdf pattern for you...

Amy's Bio - Hi, my name is Amy. I live in a small house near the ocean in Los Angeles with my three children and my awesome husband. We are a lively family but we live very quietly ~ I can honestly say that all five of us are homebodies, looking forward to returning home whenever we go out. But the fun thing I've discovered while looking through my camera these past years, is that there is a lot of beauty in our "everyday." And I'm looking forward to sharing with you my life as I create and explore new ways to find that beauty.

Completely self-taught in everything, I am a "see it- do it" kind of girl. And I love trying new things. Maybe someday I'll have a real style, but for now I love vintage and modern, girly and clean, and everything in between.

Fall Is In The Air Mini-Quilt Free Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

I know I've told you a million times I LOVE decorating for the Fall.   If you do, too, then you'll be pleased to know that Kaaren Johnston has a wonderful pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make a mini-quilt or wall hanging that's perfect for the Fall season.  This is definitely going on my "to do" list.

First Friday Freebie #1 - Fall Is In The Air

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern:  It’s Friday…and the first one of the month too!

At last…my First Friday Freebie that I just can’t wait to share with you all.

The idea came to me one evening not too long ago when the creative part of my brain just refused to shut down. I guess after designing for so many years in the Decorative Painting industry, that part of me still refuses to rest. Hence, the idea of FFF was born. I can still fulfill my desire to design and create and hopefully you’ll like some or all of my designs well enough to include them with your other creative endeavors. That would just make my ♥ sing!

Have you felt that Fall is in the Air?

For my first FFF, I designed a mini quilt or wall hanging entitled Fall is in the Air. It is Fall-themed and is stitched on tea-dyed muslin.

Please respect Kaaren's TERMS OF USE:  The use of my pattern/design and tutorials is limited to individual and personal use only. Distributing or selling my pattern or tutorials in any form is not permitted. They may not be used for commercial purposes unless written permission is granted. Credit for my pattern and tutorials should be included if displayed in any manner. Individual users may enlarge or reduce the size of the drawings for their personal use but may not alter them in any other way.

Kaaren's Bio: I am an artist and have recently retired from actively designing, publishing and travel teaching in the decorative painting industry. A short while later, in December of 2010, we moved from Eastern Ontario to the beautiful Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. Quilting, stitching, applique and most recently rug hooking have become my new passions. Oh, and did I mention that I love to make and collect pincushions and needlecases! Join me on the First Friday of every month when I release a new Freebie design for you to make and enjoy.
