Mothering Sunday Make - The Garden Tidy Tote Tutorial and Bag and Baggage - The Oil Cloth Tutorial By Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog

I can never have enough totes and use them for just about everything - even gardening. So, I was happy to see that Ros Coffey had two tutorials on her RosMadeMe Blog blog showing you how to make a delightful garden tote and a really useful oil cloth tote. Two terrific ideas.

Mothering Sunday Make - The Garden Tidy Tote Tutorial

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  I know that this may be freaking out my readers in the Americas but here in the UK, Mothering Sunday is next week, the third Sunday in Lent so I thought it might be nice to make something that does not confine your mum to the kitchen. My mother had very green thumbs and loved to be out in the garden and when I moved to my house it was my mum who cleared the borders and collected copious bags of snails to boot!

So I thought a great gift would be a gardening tidy tote to carry round all those bits and pieces that you need to be with you when you are wrestling with mother nature.

Bag and Baggage - The Oil Cloth Tutorial

Copyright © 2012 - All Rights Reserved - Written by Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  This week we are going to make a boot bag or shopping tote from oil cloth, it uses many of the techniques we used last week in the garden tote. This bag will be great for all those April showers next month, for carrying your boot in a chic bag to Festivals, for holding the kids' sopping wet swimming costumes and for feeling as though you are saving the planet at the supermarket. So let's get this on the table (no pun intended) oil cloth hates you, it is personal and it will fight you every step of the way but we are going to tame it and win!

Ros's Bio:I live by the sea, in Essex, in Leigh-on-sea. I have been making things since I was a child, earliest memories were embroidering squares of binca matting, making felt egg cups and ripping back my knitting when my sister had picked up a dropped stitch... yep, it really did have to be all my own work! I am a dreadful hoarder, with stashes of wool and fabric hidden around my house, together with the projects that I have not yet finished. I am currently making cushions, quilted, appliqued, stencilled... actually just anything that I will enjoy crafting.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial: You may remember my Mum's table runner that she has been working on? The pattern is called 'Plates for your Table' by Kim Walus at bitty bits & pieces. I said that we had modified Kim's instructions to suit two charm packs, instead of using fat quarters. This was followed closely by a query from a reader who 'couldn't for the life of her' work out how we had done that!

Cookies and Milk Snack Mat Tutorial By Amy of nanaCompany

I can hear my mother asking, "Who wants cookies and milk?" Me, me! Especially if it's served on an adorable snack mat like the one Amy has on her nanaCompany blog. I hope you enjoy Amy's tutorial.

Here's what Amy had to say about her tutorial: Cookies and milk. Mmmm. We use these snack mats every night just before bed. And as I've said... cuter than paper plates, reusable, washable, and handmade with love. Let's do it!

Amy's Bio - Hi, my name is Amy. I live in a small house near the ocean in Los Angeles with my three children and my awesome husband. We are a lively family but we live very quietly ~ I can honestly say that all five of us are homebodies, looking forward to returning home whenever we go out. But the fun thing I've discovered while looking through my camera these past years, is that there is a lot of beauty in our "everyday." And I'm looking forward to sharing with you my life as I create and explore new ways to find that beauty.

Completely self-taught in everything, I am a "see it- do it" kind of girl. And I love trying new things. Maybe someday I'll have a real style, but for now I love vintage and modern, girly and clean, and everything in between.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial: I am working on a small quilt at the moment that I am hoping to be able to show you very soon. Occasionally, I have the need to appliqué text on a quilt or other project. I have put together a tutorial, as much for my own reference as anybody's, but perhaps you will find it useful. I am using Microsoft Word on a Mac, but the commands should be much the same for PC.

Love to Cook - Rumer's Cookery Book Tutorial By Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog

Are you looking for the perfect gift to make your favorite cook, your Mum, your daughters or granddaughters who LOVE to cook?  If you are then you'll be pleased to know that Ros Coffey has a wonderful tutorial on her RosMadeMe Blog blog showing you how to make a bag to store all those handwritten family recipes.  What a wonderful idea for gifts this holiday season.  Thanks, Ros.

Love to Cook - Rumer's Cookery Book Tutorial

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  I have a friend called Rumer, she likes to cook, mind you she also likes to knit, sew and play on her DS, which is not a bad thing considering her mum runs our local yarn shop. When I saw her today, she said she wanted to make lemon drizzle cake and then we started talking about her granny's amazing chicken soup and I thought now is the time for her to start collecting her family recipes in her own cook book which is why we are going to make her very own book to gather up the recipes. I wonder if like me and my mum you have recipes books filled with hand written little scraps of paper with your beloved family recipes, if you do then this is the perfect project for you start on.

Here's what Amy had to say about her tutorial: Yay! Here's a little tutorial on how I make my needlebooks. They're super easy, fast, and fun... so let's get started.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  I found some fabulous bias binding in my local shop and just had to have it... floral bias binding is the future! Then what could I make from it... well, the answer was in my handbag, my reading glasses case was looking a little the worse for wear, also it was black and I could never find it in the bottom of my handbag to say nothing of the suitcase which held my sunglasses which was almost as big as my handbag... so I was off an running. What I need is a simple quilted speccy case!

An Autumn Sampler Free Quilt Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

I can never get enough of wall quilts - especially those for the Fall season.   So, I was delighted to see that Kaaren Johnston had a wonderful pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make an autumn sampler.   Given my love of Fall this is definitely going on my "to do" list.

First Friday Freebie #22 - An Autumn Sampler

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern:  After four days of rain and an unseasonal ‘nor-easter thrown in for good measure, we have our fingers crossed for blue skies and sunshine today. Although yesterday dawned bright and cool, we had to fire up our furnace and build a fire in the wood stove for the first time this season. We even had a few wet flurries of the white stuff. Yikes! I think that autumn has officially arrived!

To celebrate the season, this month’s First Friday Freebie was designed to showcase the fading days of summer and the start of autumn…my favorite season! Watermelon, sunflowers, crows, wasps, pumpkins, birdhouses, flowers and of course the alphabet are included in this sampler.

I'm hoping I'll acquire some of both a little further down the road, but right now I'm simply going to share with you how I applique. It's easy peasy. Here's what Vicki had to say about her keepsakes quilt tutorial: This quilt was designed to use large scale prints and for making t-shirt quilts. The first quilts I made used these large florals. Then I made 2 t-shirt quilts using the same process.

Here's what Vicki had to say about her zig zag scraps quilt tutorial:  Someone asked for the instructions for making the navy scrap quilt so I thought I'd share them on the blog for anyone else. These instructions are going to be quite abbreviated because this quilt is so simple. All you really need are a few basic figures.

Mosaic Collage Free Tutorial By Terri Stegmiller of StegArt

If you're looking for an art quilting technique involving decoupage, quilting, mosaics, and collage you'll be thrilled to know that Terri Stegmiller has a wonderful tutorial on her Terri Stegmiller website for creating a mosaic collage quilt that I hope you will enjoy.

Here's what Terri had to say about her mosaic collage tutorial: I really enjoy the look of art that is called decoupage. Where small pieces of papers are adhered to an object, usually covering that object entirely. The end result reminds me of glass mosaics and collages. That’s where the idea came for the name of this technique. I had wondered for some time how I could create this look, or something close to this look, in fabric. I’m not positive how long it took me to work through the process in my brain, perhaps maybe a few months, but I was quite pleased with my results.

Here's what Terri had to say about her flower vase tutorial: I love flowers! I tend to create many pieces of art that use a flower motif. I don’t, however, always create realistic flowers. Many times I’ll just draw out a flower that I would picture in a fantasy garden and the flowers in this quilt are in a shape that I often refer to as fried egg flowers.

Here's what Terri had to say about her easy eyeglass case tutorial: Most of the time when you purchase new eyeglasses you get a nice, shiny new case to go along with them. Most of the time this case is a little on the blah side of fashion. Then there are times when you purchase a pair of sunglasses or magnified reading glasses and perhaps they didn't come with a case to put them in.

The instructions below show how I created a simple, easy-to-make eyeglass case, using mostly scraps.

Here's what Terri had to say about her big tote tutorial: There have been times when I was in need of an extra large tote bag. I have smaller or average sized bags, but nothing very large. So I ended up packing my carry along items into a large plastic bag I had gotten at a local store. This was not the ideal bag for me. I wanted something
handmade and much more sturdy and fashionable. So I set out to make myself a large tote bag

Here's what Vicki had to say about her snowflake holiday tutorial: I have been making my Christmas postcards for several years now. I make between 60 and 80 of them which means that they can't be too involved! I usually have 3 designs and make multiples of each. My first set of cards for this season are snowflake cards and they were fast and easy to make!

Here's what Vicki had to say about her "The Silver Tree" postcard tutorial:  Are you old enough to remember the aluminum tree with the 4-color light wheel? Both of my Grandparents had them at one time or another. I still love them and I've been trying to come up with a way to represent the aluminum tree in a postcard. It all came to me last week when Kim gave me some scraps of silver silk from her holiday dress. I thought that others might want to create an aluminum tree memory so here's a little tutorial.
