Here's what Freida had to say about her tutorial: Let’s talk about basic fusing.  I have found out several things over the 30 years that I have been using fusible web. I have had some ups and downs but over all I love the process and the products that I use. I am a faculty member of the Chicago School of Fusing - dean of technology, I help people with their computers, printers, sewing machines, irons, if it is a machine I help them. I really think I could have been a mechanical engineer, well except for the math part.

Fused Binding Tutorial By Frieda Anderson of Walks In The Woods - Art Quilts

Have you ever wondered if there was a better way to bind the edge of your quilt? I know I have. If you have, too then you'll be happy to know that Freida Anderson has a method she uses on her Walks In The Woods blog that she is sharing with all of us.

Fused Binding

Here's what Freida had to say about her tutorial:  I think it is always a good idea to review information. I have been thinking about putting up directions to make a fused binding for awhile now and this seems like as good a time as any.

Most of my fused art quilts have this kind of binding. It is easy to do and really fast and it allows you to use those great decorative rotary blades in your rotary cutter to create one edge of the binding. It also allows you to use scraps of fused fabric if you want.

Here's what Freida had to say about her tutorial: I thought it would be good to share some of the tips that I have found to be helpful about machine quilting here on the blog. It seems like there is a real surge in interest from quilters to be better with their machine quilting. I think people are realizing how long it takes to hand quilt and how much it cost to have someone quilt it for them. My classes in MQ are always full and everyone tells me how much better they feel after taking the class. So this is for you guys who live to far away or just can’t make it to a class.  Here we go.

Here's what Alma had to say about her tutorial:  I am starting 2010 with an art project called The Glossy Project. The Glossy Project is a monthly challenge I have started as a way to merge my love of design and fashion with textile and mixed media art.

For this year, the theme will be the cover of Boho, Vogue (US edition), Oprah and Bust magazine and the design is always embroidered.

The embroidery technique is one I have been using and teaching for years now. I call this stitch,The Glossy Back Stitch. It is similar to the traditional back stitch,

Here's what Ashley had to say about her tutorial:   I love art that looks old, a little rare, antique.......like maybe it was acquired from an estate sale or maybe even an auction at Sotheby's. But I don't like to spend large amounts of money on art.....so I have to improvise. Stained Glass

Something a little different, my dad's work features in the Winter 2008 issue of Art News New Zealand by Rob Garrett, who has a copy of the article on his web site. Dad designed eight stained glass windows for Westlake Boys High School in Auckland, New Zealand.
Rob Garrett describes them thus:
The challenge when designing stained glass windows as a commemoration of 50 years of a high school is tough, no matter how open the brief. There is no unifying faith; no character-driven narrative; and no beginning, middle and end in the dramatic sense. There is only bewildering complexity; layer upon layer of possibility. [Dugald] Page has tackled this complexity head on by establishing unifying strands that weave through all eight panels: prismatic colour, seasonal change and the metaphor of metamorphosis. Stitched into these strands is a palimpsest of iconic symbols of science and technology, sport, the Pacific, discovery, historic events, literature and the arts.
They are gorgeous to look at (the picture below shows them before they were mounted in the school hall).
